The Center now offers robotic-arm assisted surgery for patients needing joint replacement. This advancement transforms the way knee and hip replacements are performed.
Known as Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery, the process starts with a CT Scan of the patient’s joint. The CT Scan is then used to create a patient-specific virtual 3D model of the joint. That model is then loaded into the Mako system to create a surgical plan that is based specifically on the anatomy of the patient. When a Valley View orthopaedic surgeon performs the operation, the robotic arm assists the surgeon to provide precise component placement and alignment of the joint.
“Mako is changing the way joint replacement surgeries are performed by providing each patients with a personalized surgical experience based on their specific diagnosis and anatomy,” says orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Christopher George.
Having performed more than 225 joint replacement surgeries in 2017, the Center is expected to exceed that number in 2018.
